What does Cinderella Castle mean to you?

I can’t tell you my initial thoughts or feelings when I first laid eyes on Cinderella Castle at age four (I think). But it must have left quite an impression; it has called me back for 36 years, each time being as breathtaking as the last.
I have heard these same expressions from others alike, the castle evokes an emotion deep within, not always explainable. Gasps, tears, laughter and sighs are all sentiments used to describe effects people have had when those blue spirals come into sight. What is it about this castle in particular that heightens such emotion? Is it Cinderella who we are connecting with; is it a fairytale come to life before our eyes? For me… I think I hear it saying “keep dreaming, keep reaching, life is fun and full of possibilities”.
What do you see, hear or feel when you see Cinderella Castle soaring before you?

Saving Mr. Banks

The movie I had been pining to see since the trailers were released, it felt like a perpetual wait… but finally the day had arrived. I felt like I was going to some sort of exclusive documentary as silly as that sounds, but excited is a played down verb to describe my mood while walking into the theater. I was armed with a tissue or two because I read about the twists and turns of emotion. But I was not prepared to walk out of the theater in a daze; I was joyful, relieved, troubled all wrapped in one big hug of emotion.
This movie is packed with a punch! You are taken on a journey to save Mr. Banks. In doing so you are carried by the hands of time with P. L. Travers, writer of the original book series Mary Poppins. There are heartwarming relationships formed that cultivate Travers from a scared confined individual to a woman who can view the world with a song in her heart. It was fascinating to reference this piece of history with the Mary Poppins film created by  the intrinsically talented Disney team. You don’t have to be a huge Disney buff to enjoy this film, in saying that I would highly recommend this movie and will be purchasing the DVD upon it’s release.

Meeting World Showcase Cast Members…. A highlight of my visit.

While Nicole and I took our world tour around the lagoon, sampling each countries finest “beverages”, we had the privilege of meeting Christina in Germany. Christina was more than eager to start up a conversation with us, (I think we looked like 2 super amusing gals). We had ordered the Wine Flight and were ready for take off…just as Christina came aboard. She asked how we were enjoying our beverages and began to answer our many questions about her country and their celebrations, since Nicole and I were in a celebratory mood . This became one of many highlights of my Two Moms and a Mouse vacation, it was such a pleasure to meet Christina, I am sure Nicole and I will always remember her. So… when you are visiting World Showcase strike up a conversation with one of their native country residents and enhance your memories on your Disney vacation. “Prost” as we toast to Christina!

Magic Kingdom Mondays …. Welcome Ceremony- Is it part of your day?

To stand in front of the Train Station and watch Mickey and friends ride in and greet you is an overwhelming feeling of excitement. Standing in the first rays of morning sunshine when the day is fresh and new as Main Street USA opens up with uplifting tunes and scents that feel like warm hugs and a sight of dreams comes true…..

When I visit the Magic Kingdom, I make every effort to be standing in front of the Train Station by 8:50am (for a 9am opening). There is something truly magical, beyond explanation to hear Main Street’s Mayor welcome you to, “The Most Magical Place on Earth” and watch Main Street’s Citizen’s dance to ‘Good Morning’. Then to hear the whistle of a train, not just any train! Here comes Mickey and other Disney favorites riding in on the Walt Disney World Railroad to the toe tapping tune ‘Casey Junior’.
I hold my breath with excitement and choke back my tears as Mickey and friends disembark and welcome us all once again. I can’t help to stretch my hand up as high as can be waving vicariously to Mickey; then the fireworks shoot into the sky and off I go onto many adventures that will last a lifetime!

The Link between Columbia Harbour House and Haunted Mansion….

Everyone has a favorite “land” and favorite dining locations. For me, Liberty Square and Columbia Harbour House rank at the top. Though I do like the Harbour House fare, I enjoy coming to this restaurant for far more reasons. It is packed full of maps, artifacts, and nautical curios. It is like a mini museum in which you take time to browse taking in its entire historical accounts. The offerings do not stop there; this dining location helps to tie in Haunted Mansion’s presence in Liberty square. If you look closely you will notice each part of the restaurant adorns vessels lost at sea or phantom ships. Take a look out the front window from the top floor, it faces the Haunted Mansion. My favorite piece of history in this restaurant is found hanging framed on the wall to the left of the upstairs front window (that faces the HM). It is a Map of the Ghost Fleet of the Outer Banks published from ‘National Geographic’ magazine. It shows the 500 ships lost at sea along the U.S. coastline. Another tie in you will find down stairs while ordering your meal. Look up at the beams and take note of the fishing spears and hold that image. Take a walk over to the Haunted Mansion, after exiting the stretch room you will see a portrait of a sea captain ( 3rd portrait down), what is he holding? Yes, the same spear you spotted in Columbia Harbour House.
Next time you are in Liberty Square stop in the Harbour House and check out the ghostly ties between these two locations. Maybe you’ll get lucky and have a spiritual guide help you along the way

FuN FaCts: Walt was keen on keeping the authenticity within each land. During colonial times there were no restrooms so you will not find any signs directing to such within Liberty Square. However you can find them inside both Liberty Square restaurants.

A Meal Fit for a Princess

When Rebekah decided she wanted to be transformed into Rapunzel at the Bibbidi Bobbity Boutique, I decided to book the appointment at Cinderella Castle in the Magic Kingdom.  At the time Rapunzel had a meet and greet in the Fairytale Garden and I thought, “What a magical moment this will be.”  We had previously been to the BBB in the World of Disney store in Downtown Disney, (you can read my review here) and this would be a new adventure and experience for both of us.  To add an additional layer of Bibbidi Bobbity Boo from the Fairy God Mother, I thought lunch in the castle would be just lovely!  cinderellas-royal-table-sign

Our BBB appointment was at 10:20am and Cinderella’s Royal Table at 12:15pm, plenty of time for a meet and greet with Rapunzel.  I had it all planned out perfectly but of course there are always hiccups here and there.  Though our appointment was for 10:20am I venture to say we were not introduced to our FGIT (Fairy Godmother in Training) until 10:50am.  Our FGIT, Angela was very experienced with her magical wand and we were off and ready to go meet Rapunzel in no time.  The line for Rapunzel was quite long and hot and Rebekah became very hungry, I feared we would not be able to make this memory happen…. But the Tiki Gods were with us and we were able to meet the gregarious gal and make it to our princess celebration on time.

We checked in with the maiden at the castle door and were escorted down the royal carpet to meet her Royal Highness, Cinderella.  I tried to take in all the detail of the castle foyer.  There were coat of arms displayed, full suites of armor and Cinderella’s best buds, little Jacque and Gus walking the perimeter walls of the castle way up high!

After we met our most gracious princess we walked up a red carpeted spiral staircase, I can still feel the butterflies and excitement well up in my chest just remembering the moment.  We were greeted by yet another maiden that escorted us to our royal table – We were actually in the castle about to dine with the “Thee Princesses!”,  and to top it off I was sitting with the most beautiful princess of all, my very own Rapunzel.

Upon entering the dining hall Rebekah received a special wishing wand and wishing star which was set to create magical happenings during our meal.

Our server greeted us and took our order; I had a baked chicken dish accompanied by mashed potatoes and Rebekah had chicken nuggets with macaroni and cheese.  The menus have changed a bit since then, to see a current menu click here…..  I was very pleased with my lunch, the chicken was tender and juicy and the mashed potatoes we creamy and seasoned well.  Rebekah did not care much for her mac & cheese so I decided to have a little taste and polished that off too.  It was very creamy and cheesy, if you have had the mac and cheese at Sunshine Seasons in Epcot’s, Land Pavilion, it is very similar.

As we dined we were greeted by the royal court; Aurora, Ariel, Snow White, and Belle.  Each princess stayed long enough to sign our autograph book, have a little chit chat, take a photograph and off they went.  I did not expect they would spend an allotted time with each guest.  I felt it was reasonable considering all the guests that needed to be greeted.

During our royal experience a storybook voice began to softly speak, telling us, “Now close your eyes – make a wish and repeat after me with all your might and don’t open your eyes until you say Boo!…. Bibbidi, Bobbity Boo!”  I watched Rebekah, eyes closed and wishing with her little heart with all her might.  She opened her eyes as the room glistened with shimmers of light as if the Fairy God Mother herself cast her magic wand upon the room, it was beautiful.

It was now time for dessert.  I indulged in Valrhona Chocolate Mousse; it was a light chocolate mousse with berries and raspberry sauce, while Rebekah had a vanilla cupcake with trimmings!  Both desserts were enjoyed to the highest degree.

It was time to bid our new friends adieu, we had a wonderful time, one that will not be forgotten.  It isn’t everyday you get to dine with royalty!

Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique*** Downtown Disney or Magic Kingdom?

Rebekah was 3 ½ when she had her first Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique experience.  I chose the Downtown Disney location because I felt a Bibbidi Bobbidi experience alone was a complete event at age 3 1/2; I did not want to over stimulate her and walking around in a princess dress in Florida’s September heat can be taxing.  I booked the first appointment available on the date we chose, if my memory serves me correctly I believe that was 10am.  I would highly suggest this; there was not a sole in the Boutique for at least ½ hour of our visit – after that major hustle and bustle!  Our Fairy Godmother in training was Millie (from Newark, NJ) and she was amazing as an FGiT (Fairy Godmother in Training), I will explain this further along.  Rebekah had chosen to be Snow White; we purchased her dress from our local Marshalls as it was the month before Halloween and they were fully stocked!  I recommend doing this if you are interested in a package that includes hair, nails, make-up, and sash (prices have gone up considerably since my last visit).  To view the current rates click here

It was a lovely first time experience, the room was decked out in shades of pinks and purples, in the center of the room was a beautiful chandler; it looked like a regal atmosphere.  After they had primped her to princess potential (she chose the fairytale princess hair style) out came the fairy dust to complete the transformation.  I was so wishing I was of Princess Boutique age, but alas I had to live vicariously through Rebekah.  The final touch was her official BBB sash.  When they turned her around her face was priceless and I will never forget a moment of it!  Upon leaving we were given an official invite to the Princess Parade that would take place later that day in Dowtown Disney Marketplace.  It would include the princesses who were inaugurated that day, an impromptu lesson on how to wave to your kingdom as an official princess, and a free ride on the Downtown Disney mini Merry-go-Round.  What more could a young lady hope for?!

Since that first BBB experience in 2009, we have been back two other times, as Tiana and Rapunzel.  In 2010 we went back to DTD to be made over in the likes of Tiana.  This visit we were not so fortunate with our FGIT.  Rebekah had very long thick hair at the time (as she did with Millie) and the FGIT was not able to secure her bun in the Fairytale Princess style she requested.  As we waited, once again for the Princess Parade it began to fall out.  I took her back and they gladly re-secured her bun.  Unfortunately it fell out again as the day went on.  I knew this was not the norm as it did not happen with Millie from Newark, New Jersey.

Our latest appointment was booked at Cinderella Castle.  My husband went to play golf and Rebekah and I took off for the Magic Kingdom for our first BBB Castle experience.  My first impression was it appeared much smaller than the DTD location and I didn’t feel it was as Grande a room.  I made sure to ask for a very experienced FGIT because of our last occurrence – and we were not disappointed.  Our appointment was booked later in the day so I could incorporate a Rapunzel meet-n-greet (who Rebekah chose to dress as) followed by a lunch in the castle (I will be writing a review on this shortly).  Because we were booked later in the day we did wait for about ½ hour before we were called.  Angela was our very experienced FGIT, I don’t remember how long she has been working as such, but it was quite a while and we had no issue with a loose- cascading bun 😉

If Rebekah wished to return to the BBB in a future visit, I believe I would choose the DTD location and book a “first thing in the morning” appointment.  In my opinion it was a more beautiful room with much more space.  I was slightly disappointed by my castle experience after first visiting the DTD location.  That being said, I exceptionally enjoyed the princess match-up meet-n-greet followed by our castle dining, that could not have been done in DTD.

The Bibbidi Bobiddi Boutique is a bit pricey but is a major memory maker that I wouldn’t have wanted to miss out on.  There are many packages available to help it be affordable to all… along with a little creativity of your own!

A Party Under the Sea!

Rebekah just celebrated her 8th birthday; planning her party is still in the works.  This year she has chosen a Paris theme, so I am in the process of gathering lots of pink and black items and anything with an Eiffel Tower on it!

I started looking at her past birthday party photos reminiscing about when my baby was really still a baby.  As I scanned through, I came to “Rebekah’s 7th Birthday Party -Under the Sea”, this one was my favorite!  This is definitely a DYI #Disneyside birthday party.  For inspiration I started searching the World Wide Web for ideas and then put my own twist on them.  I found great items at Dollar tree and The Christmas Tree Shoppe, Party City and Oriental Trading.  This party took place in my house so I was able to decorate the day before, which was a must because of the large amount of preparation needed.

150428_556708107685692_1952619325_n

I began lining my walls from ceiling to floor with blue and white streamers, (ocean colors) and in some areas I twisted two different colors of green to look like seaweed.

535939_556708057685697_1924362473_n

The ceiling was draped with blue and white streamers to simulate ocean waves.  I hung the green streamers from the waves for a seaweed effect.  If you purchase your streamers from Dollar Tree you will get a bigger bang for your buck, two in a pack.  I ordered tropical fish from Oriental Trading and hung them on the ceiling, swimming in the waves 🙂

I called my couch the Sand Bar and hung an ocean scene on the wall.  We used white Christmas lights behind the ocean to act as sunlight glistening in the water and wrote each girls name on a fish which was taped onto the ocean scene.  Mini paper lanterns were purchased from The Christmas Tree Shoppe and used as jellyfish by hanging steamers from underneath.  White and blue balloons acted as water bubbles in the ocean.

734005_556708221019014_153039919_n

The Christmas Tree Shoppe had light-up battery operated neon colored faux pussy willow plants on clearance (I wonder why, haha).  I placed them in a corner to act as coral.  If you look real close to the back left you can spot them.

482166_556707531019083_460662437_n

I created a mini grotto adorned with a photo of Prince Eric, seashells, a string of seashell lights and a basket of dinglehoppers (mini cocktail forks).

I covered the windows with blue cellophane to give the room an additional ocean-esq feel.

The party table had a light blue plastic table cloth with  trimmed out brown paper to look like sand.  I found these fake plants at the Dollar Tree and used them as seaweed.  I placed them in florist foam cubes and covered them with green tulle, holding them in place with star fish.  I placed shells, Little Mermaid confetti and green and blue glass rocks along the “sand”.  Lunch was a served up for our aquatic bunch.  We had sea shell pasta and star fish sandwiches (cut with a star cookie cutter), I sliced the ends of a mini hot dog, bending them outward to resemble octopus legs.  Snacks included Goldfish, Swedish Fish and oyster soup crackers.

We had a face painter adorn our Birthday Girl and guests, below are a few of my favorite faces!

One of our crafts  was creating foam/sand art scenes.  We had colored sand, ocean confetti and stickers and jewels.

524001_556708964352273_332242196_n

With such a great deal of decorating it didn’t leave much time for cake trimming.  So I had to create something simple and fast!  I used two 9 inch rounds for the bottom and a star pan for the top.  The green grass was Easter candy  grass and crushed graham crackers as sand.

At the end of the party we played different Disney pop versions of The Little Mermaid songs as the girls danced and played with the ocean bubbles.  My goodie bags we clearanced sea themed gift bags from The Christmas Tree Shoppe, they were filled with ocean and Little Mermaid fun finds.  At the end of the party the girls were told to fill their bags with the decor that adorned the party table.

I had so much fun creating and decorating this party! Now onto Paris~
