Turning Goals into Resolutions~

As this year quickly came to an end, I began to feel slightly anxious about what I was going to focus on during the upcoming year. There are so many facets within my life that I would like to improve upon and enhance, where do I start?

goals or resolutions

Traditionally a New Year’s resolution would be the starting point, but New Year’s resolutions were never something I really cared to commit to. It seems rather intimidating, announcing to the world my “promise” to make a permanent change in my life. This is not how I visualize a great start to a new year. What if those visions changed, what if they didn’t work out the way I intended, what if I just down right failed at this attempt of a permanent change? So each year as I ring in the New Year amongst family and friends I choose to start the next day just as the one before it, no resolutions.

newy1 newy2

This year I felt the need for a more focused start but I have so many ventures tucked in the back of my head I don’t know where to start!

Focus, Simplify and Grow ~

I found these three words on Lou Mongello’s facebook page New Year’s Day. When I read these words I breathed a sigh of relief, (thank you Lou). I tend to make complex strategies in my pursuit of “life”.  I get lost in an overload of details that I create for each pursuit, causing my focus to blur.  I need to learn when to use the wide angle lens and when and how to focus on the subject to simplify the picture of each endeavor. This will enable growth not only in each venture but also in my overall character.

wd quote4

Staying on Track- Resolution or Goal ~ how do I focus, simplify and grow?

Though I have never committed to a New Year’s resolution, I have committed to goals. This got me thinking about what the difference between a resolution and a goal is; I simply looked up the definitions.

Resolution A firm determination to do something, a course of action determined or decided on.

A resolution is a long term change you intend to keep, it is not something you complete, and it is permanent. Resolutions tend to be vague, such as eat healthier or exercise more.

wd quote13

Goal: The object toward which an endeavor is directed; an end. Looking to achieve a result, a target to reach, an end point after a chosen period of time.

A goal can be short term or long term and is something you have a conclusion to, not necessarily a permanent change. Goals are more specific such as, choosing to run a marathon and working toward the completion of it.

The key contrast between the two is they differ in terms of duration.

Goals seem less intimidating to me. Having a start point and end point will allow me to focus, simplify and meet my objectives.   A resolution seems so wide open; I would lose direction without set time frames to complete those objectives.

wd quote5

But maybe I can make a New Year’s Resolution ~using them together ~

How can I make that New Year’s resolution less intrusive? Maybe starting with a goal would help maintain a resolution, meeting each goal to work toward that life changing resolution.

wd quote3

Setting goals and achieving them is empowering, making a resolution that never comes to pass would take the wind out of my sails. So if I start out with realistic goals that I can meet within reasonable time periods, I can work my way up to that life changing resolution. Who knows along the way I may find new gifts and talents I never knew I possessed!

Quick Tip Tuesday~ To Crock or not to Crock?

I learned from a recent conversation with my mother, that my Aunt, ( best described as a rustic spin off of Paula Dean), would bring her griddle to the hotel on our Disney vacations and cook up one heck of a meal to feed us all. I never would think of doing such a thing!

1 –  On vacation I certainly have no desire to cook.

2- Pancakes and eggs are about as far as my imagination leads me on a griddle.

I decided to research this and found many others who do the same and to one up that, they bring their crock pot as well!

So for this Quick Tip Tuesday I am posing the question, To Crock or not to Crock?

Top Ten Christmas Wishes This Mom Wants Under Her Tree

The anticipation of Christmas gets stronger as each December day passes by.  The spirit of the season inspires children to be on their best behavior and adults recapture their belief in Christmas magic. As the dawn of Christmas morning breaks and awakens the sleepy eyes of adolescents around the world, squeals of excitement will be heard as they dash out to see what Santa has left them under the tree.

As this holiday approaches and my belief in Christmas magic becomes aplenty, I begin to ponder on what I would like to find under the tree when I dash out with squeals of excitement too.

Dear Santa, Here is my Top Ten Disney Christmas wishes ~

When You Can’t Afford an Excursion ~

orange loop

Welcome to those of you joining me from I Am a Mommy Nerd  and those of you just hopping aboard. I am the final stop on our Magical Blogorail.

A Disney Cruise is my family’s most sought out adventure, one we have yet to embark upon and one that is at the very top of our adventure seeking list.  When day dreaming about Disney cruising, my thoughts always make a beeline to the Caribbean Islands where warm sandy beaches and swaying palms trees reside.   But when I was asked to write about a Disney Cruise and their excursions I had to reach out to my good friend Jennifer, who in my book is a veteran Disney Cruiser.  Jennifer and her family have embarked on three Disney Cruises. What Jennifer is not a veteran of is cruise excursions.  She feels they are very expensive and can take much time to transport to and from the ship in a timely fashion.

post ship

What Jennifer does seek out are beaches that are in close proximately to the port as to not waste too much time traveling when she could be running her toes through the sand. She shared her Dawn Beach excursion experience with me.

postdawn

Dawn Beach is found on the island of St. Martin or St. Maarten, (depending if you are speaking from a French or Dutch perspective).

post dawn2

Before setting sail on the Fantasy, Jenn researched the best and most efficient way to travel to Dawn Beach. She found valuable information on blogs and travel guides. Her research led her to taking a short 15 minute cab ride to Mr. Busby’s, a bar and lunch location where you can rent chairs and umbrellas and beer is only a $1.00 each!

post dawn7

Access to Dawn Beach is found around the back of the bar but no purchase is necessary to use their beach access.

Another unofficial excursion is simply taking in the sights within each islands town.  One of Jennifer’s most memorable town day trips was in Key West.  This island is painted with brightly colored pastels and structures fitted with a laced gingerbread architecture.

It is a mix of quaint cottages, bars, bistros and great shops to browse about.

If you travel to the very end of this strip lined with liveliness you will find a beach which marks the most southern tip of the United States!

Thanks for stopping by to share in my friend Jennifer’s Disney Cruise unofficial excursions.

Another Race Ran ~ Another Goal Met ~ One Step Closer to the Prize

Today I joined my Disney Sister Nicole in a “Run for Fun Race Weekend” 🙂 It may not have been as exciting as the Tower of Terror 10 Miler ~

tt104

But none the less it is a race I ran to work toward the Girl Power 2015 Princess Race/Marathon Weekend.

princess-shoes

Today I ran the the 37th Annual “Kelly Memorial” Police Chase 10K Road Race! Of course once again I adorned my mouse ears to represent my #Disneyside and my #PrincessRaceside .

run1

My race time was 10:59 minutes/seconds per mile and I’m super proud! I am super proud that I pushed myself to follow through with running this race, super proud to be a part of this Girl Power/Run Princess team and super proud to have the determination to keep reaching for the stars!  What ever your dreams, goals, aspirations may be – don’t look back, keep walking/running forward no matter what the pace!

Quick Tip Tuesday ~ A Must Have!

Recently Nicole and her family paid Epcot a visit and of course they had to take a walk around World Showcase for a peek at the Food and Wine Festival. Upon their visit they discovered this handy invention.

Blog18 blog24

A miniature tray with a cup holder and just enough room for a snack. How ingenious, not just for Epcot’s Food and Wine Festival but for at home as well! What a great item to travel with in the car on long trips or for a picnic!  You could even use these while at any park within Walt Disney World. I just love these miniature trays.  They can be purchased at Epcot for $5.oo each- a great souvenir that you can use over and over. 🙂

Just Another Disney Day

Nicole and her family have the opportunity to visit Walt Disney World quite often; they are just a short drive from the Magic. They went ahead and took that drive this weekend and sent us lots of pictures so we could share in the Magic with them! Thank you Nicole!

There is no mistaken fall has arrived at the Magic Kingdom.  Greeting them at the entrance were wreaths of happy Mickey Head Jack-O’-Lanterns and peeking down from Main Street USA roof tops were an abundance of carved gourds who seemed to be engaged in creepy conversations.

mk1 Blog7

It is on rare occasion the Double Decker buses grace the Magic Kingdom streets; what a spectacular photo taken by Nicole’s husband!

Blog6

First order of business was the Seven Dwarfs Mine Train! On this particular visit they did not schedule fast passes; holding their breath they made this their first stop. A 30 minute wait – not bad, this also gave them a chance to check out the interactive que 🙂

A quick stop for one princess to say hi to another 🙂 Princess Bella, meet Princess Tiana ~

Blog11

Now……. onto Epcot for the Food and Wine Festival!

Blog8

On their way to the World Showcase festivities they stopped into Club Cool so Nicole could introduce Jordan to a new beverage, can you guess which one it was?

Blog15

A great budgeting tip and one of convenience too, is to purchase one of these gift cards on a coiled stretch bracelet. What a great way to enjoy snacking around the world without over spending and maybe over eating as well!

Blog16 Blog17

Speaking of convenience, check out these little plastic trays that are perfect for holding your food and beverage $5.oo each – brilliant! They are available at several locations around the park and if you are a Chase Visa card owner you can also find them in the Chase Lounge.

Blog18 blog24

Nicole enjoyed  a sampling of Bacon Hash from Farm Fresh paired with a cup of Riesling, by the big smiles and big bites I think she enjoyed it!

Blog5 Blog9 Blog14

Let’s talk about this beautiful culinary creation!

Blog25 Blog3

Yes, it’s a Dole Whip – BUT this one has an added ZING! that packs a punch. This Dole Whip can not be shared with your kiddies! But what you can offer the pint size tots is a Cronut found at the same location as this Adult Dole Whip.  A Cronut is a combination of a Croissant and a Doughnut, another brilliant invention!

Cronut

Nicole’s husband, Santi paid a visit to the Craft Beer Kiosk.  His choices were Sierra Nevada, Kellerweis® and Punkin Ale by Dogfish Head Craft Brewery @ $4.50 a cup. Beer Fights were available for $12 per flight which included four different types of brew in smaller sized cups.

Blog20  Blog21

Before they ended their delicious day at Epcot’s World Showcase they took their final ride on Malestrom.  Stand-by was a 50 minute wait ( I think many were saying their final good byes to this Norwegian boat adventure), but this family had their fast passes pre- scheduled making their wait 10 to 15 minutes.  Farvel Malestrom ~

Blog13

Farvel to Malestrom, but Aloha to the new entrance at Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort!

Blog2 Blog1

Well that’s a wrap on this Magical update.  Let us know what your favorite food and beverages are at Epcot’s Food and Wine Festival and what you think of the new Polynesian Village Resort entrance!

When on a magical vacation, eating whatever one wants is part of the fun. That’s why this picture (from Disney Day by Day) represents a meal I would love to eat. Here we have Mac and Cheese (my favorite place to eat this is Sunshine Seasons), french fries and a chocolate chip cookie- A lot of carbs? Sure but it’s vacation!

Friday Night Cocktails in Disney! I wish we could all just click our heals while saying, “There’s No Place Like Home.” and it would transport us all to our “home away from home”. Since this is not possible this day in age, the next best thing is to dream.

Tonight’s cocktail is courtesy of the 2013 Food and Wine Festival. It was presented by the Poland Marketplace – Frozen Szarlotka Cocktail with Apple Cider and Polish Bison Grass Vodka – Isn’t it so pretty? Cheers!

Dining with Disney’s Finest

I just love this photograph taken in the employee cafeteria at Disneyland in 1961.  I am not sure if this was staged or if it was a candid photograph, but regardless I would have loved to be present at the time this was taken.

throw back thursday

Their smiles all seem so genuine and are just the kind of smiles we have come to know and expect from a Disney Cast Member. Do you ever wonder how they are able to maintain such authentically bright smiles? Take a look at a portion of this Disneyland Employee Handbook printed in 1962, it may help to explain the authenticity of their cheerful expressions.  Maybe this world would become a little more magical if we all learned this artistry 🙂

AN HONEST SMILE...

At Disneyland a pleasant smile is a personality
trademark which we use all the time in greeting and directing
people.

Unfortunately, a smile cannot be painted on, like
lipstick. You can't turn it on and off like a water faucet.
And, in fact, a "forced smile"...the "grin and bear it" type
may be worse than none at all.

You've got to have an honest smile. It's got to come
from within. And...to accomplish this...you've got to develop
a sense of humor and a genuine interest in people.

There are a few tricks which will help you develop an
honest smile, and here they are - -

     Don't take Yourself too seriously

        One reason people can't smile
        with others is because they
        can't smile at themselves. The
        first lesson in smiling...have
        a good laugh at yourself.
You're a bit funny (or dumb)
        yourself sometimes.

     A frown won't help

Maybe if you are a judge or the
villain in a play, a frown or
grimace will help you in your
work. But generally it won't do
        anything but harm, and
        particularly at Disneyland.....
        the Happiest Kingdom in the
        World.

     You get paid for smiling

        If nothing else helps...
remember that you get paid for
        smiling. You don't have to
        laugh -- just smile.

Another way you can develop your smile is to use smiling
phrases.......
