Dreams Do Come True
Today I finished reading, Dream It! Do It! By Marty Sklar, a book (imo) full of inspiration. I will be writing a review and posting it on our blog in the near future, but for now I wanted to discuss one particular quote.
Marty was a ghost writer for Walt and helped to develop the “Disney Image” we have come to know and love, (first through his writing and later through Imagineering). Learning to understand Walt’s philosophy, Marty was able to help him express his visions to the world, through inspirational writing.
As I came to the end of the book there was one last quote revised and re-written by Marty for Walt, it was titled “Four C’s”
“Somehow I can’t believe there are many heights that can’t be scaled by a man who knows the secret of making dreams come true. This special secret can be summarized in four C’s. They are Curiosity, Confidence, Courage, and Constancy, and the greatest of these is Confidence. When you believe a thing, believe in it all the way. Have Confidence in your ability to do it right. And work hard to do the best job.”
WOW! I don’t know about you, but I find great inspiration in these words. In this world our hopes, dreams and aspirations easily are beat up, chewed up, and spit out. It takes great Confidence, Courage, and Constancy to see our vision through to completion, if we are able to hold on to it for that length of time. The closest people to us, without even knowing, can be the demise of our visions.
For this reason in part is why “Disney” has spoken to me so loudly throughout my childhood (though that was not clear at that stage in my life) into adult years. Dreams Do Come True! – Usually not by chance, but by these “Four C’s”. Walt Disney never claimed dreams come true by taking short cuts; his journey was a long and winding road. He has been quoted; that he would not do it differently, so there must be something said for that.
I will be holding onto these words real tight as I near closer to my Dream Come True vision, I encourage you to do the same.
